Why the Capitals can pay on the NHL lines

The Capitals rebounded nicely from a 3-2 deficit in Game 5 at home on Saturday, outscoring their opponents 4-0 in the third period en route to an impressive 6-3 victory.

Washington rookie Jakub Vrana was promoted to the top line and responded with two assists and the game-winning goal, while goaltender Braden Holtby made 36 saves and shut out Pittsburgh in the third period.

The Capitals have never made it to the Eastern Conference final with Alex Ovechkin, but something just seems different about this team as they try to knock out the Penguins for the first time in four playoff series.

Why the Penguins can pay on the NHL lines

Pittsburgh has relied on its home ice several times the previous two postseasons and delivered when it has mattered the most. This is one of those situations again, and the Penguins still have a championship-caliber squad led by Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Jake Guentzel.

The key will again be goalie Matt Murray in net, as he has been good in the team’s two wins and below-average in the three losses. After watching former mentor Marc-Andre Fleury blank the San Jose Sharks to clinch a series win for the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday, Murray should be extra motivated here.

Smart betting pick

Pittsburgh improved to 9-4 in the last 13 meetings at PPG Paints Arena, according to the OddsShark NHL Database, with a much-needed victory in Game 4 last Thursday.

This is obviously a do-or-die situation for the Penguins in an elimination spot, and there is no time for them to be complacent and reflect on their past accomplishments. With the price too high on them to win straight up, consider a wager on the puckline instead.
